Meditation and surfing for many is a combination to face their fears and get out of their comfort zone. And also being in the here and now is what draws many of us into the ocean and onto the surfboard. The magic of the ocean and the energy of the waves gives us a sense of freedom, inner peace and power.

Nevertheless, surfing is a challenge.  The ocean is and always will be unpredictable, which makes it especially important to strengthen our own focus, inner peace and self-confidence.

MEDITATION AND SURFING: HERE WE GIVE YOU 5 REASONS WHY MEDITATION HELPS SURFING.

  1. Dynamic breathing exercises give you security and make you feel that you can stay under water for a longer time without panicking.

All beginnings are hard. Even meditating seems easier than it is at first. But head training requires patience, strength, and calmness.

To get you started on your meditation routine as easily as possible, we have a few tips for you.

  1. If it’s your first time meditating, it’s a good idea to join a guided meditation. You will be guided through the first steps and it will be easier for you to switch off. You can find a guided meditation on Spotify, YouTube, and other channels.
  2. Find a place where you can be quiet. During your first meditations, you should eliminate external influences, distracting noises, and things that distract you as much as possible.
  3. Make yourself comfortable. A cozy atmosphere will help you relax and leave the stress of everyday life behind. Dim the lights, find cozy pillows and a blanket and wear comfortable clothes. You can meditate both sitting and lying down.
  4. Start your meditation routine step-by-step. No one expects you to sit still for 60 minutes at a time. What is really effective is regularity. So if you start your day with 10 minutes every day in the morning, or wind down your evening after work.
  5. Combine different types of meditation to learn which type of meditation you like best. Switch between silent and music-backed meditation, or try different coaches.

…of physical and mental training. Even just before the session, it is worthwhile to pause for a few minutes on the beach and find yourself. And of course, surfing is also a form of meditation in itself. In the ocean, on the surfboard, you are alone and can leave everyday life behind. The harmony with nature and the ocean has a calming effect and lets you re-connect. While waiting for the next wave, take a few deep breaths, close your eyes and be grateful. Appreciate this special moment in the water, the magic of the waves, and learn to be grateful to yourself for the time you take for yourself.
