Surf pop ups can be one of the most difficult maneuvers to learn when first starting out surfing. But once you get the hang of it, it will become second nature. Here are some tips on how to execute a proper surf pop up:
Surf Pop Up Instruction
- Start in the prone position on your surfboard, lying flat on your stomach with your arms at your sides.
- Place your hands on the rails of the board, about shoulder-width apart.
- Push down with your hands and simultaneously bring your feet up underneath you so that you are in a crouching position on the board.
- From here, explosively jump up into the air and land in a stance with your feet shoulder-width apart and your weight evenly distributed.
- Ride the wave!
Practice makes perfect when it comes to surf pop ups. So keep at it and soon you’ll be popping up like a pro!
